The scheme was first initiated in the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education in name of Pudhumai Penn Scheme . The scheme will entitle girl students to obtain some scholarship to enroll for higher studies. The scheme is also implemented to improve state of living of girls in Tamil Nadu and also for their education in the schools. The scheme benefits is now available to be claimed by girls students of Tamil Nadu .
The scheme Pudhumai Penn Yojana will benefit more than 26 schools of excellence and also 15 model registered schools established under the Tamil Nadu Government administration and AAP Administration in Delhi . The Pudhumai Penn Scheme as the name suggest means modern women where the scheme will be made to make the girl student the modern women of future. The scheme shall be pathbreaking yojana for creating wisdom for women in Tamil Nadu. The scheme will also undertake improvements in the education system of girls in Tamil Nadu and also the scheme will prioritize education of female students through establishing more facilities for education in registered schools of Tamil Nadu.
The scheme will provide benefit to schools and to girl students who are in 6 to 12 standards of schools of Tamil Nadu. Also financial assistance shall be provided to the registered students of this scheme where a monthly stipend of Rs 1000 shall be provided to the students of schools and college .
The scheme will also benefit 1099 registered girls in Tamil Nadu schools which have either completed their studies in Class VI to Class 12 or are still in the upgradation of standards and those require monthly assistance to buy their books or uniform .

Due to deterioration of education system and exploitation of private schools , the scheme was laid by the Government to provide financial assistance to girl students. This scheme will remove restaints of poor families , who feel hesitated to get their girl child educated in Government schools because they are not able to manage the book charges or dress charges.
